Weatherbug provides local weather forecasts and environmental data, national weather news, and important safety alerts to millions of users a day. As a free app, Weatherbug relies on advertising to bring in a majority of their revenue.

Challenge

Historically for Weatherbug, increasing revenue presented technical challenges. The additional partner SDKs significantly increased latency in the app, and their small team of three lacked the resources needed to manage that many integrations.

Without dedicated programmatic engineers, Weatherbug didn’t have a way to easily scale revenue efforts.

Solution

Nimbus’ engineering team worked with Weatherbug to build a custom client-side header bidding setup, which allows Weatherbug to maximize their exposure to demand partners with minimal SDK management. Through Nimbus, Weatherbug also has access to extensive reporting and a great account team helping them optimize the entire ad stack.

Weatherbug has seen a 17% increase in eCPMs since integrating the Nimbus exchange. The strength of the Nimbus demand suite has added meaningful competition to the ad stack, and created a substantial revenue boost across all bidders used in Weatherbug’s custom setup.
